Editor, RE: "Failed candidate Rwigara accused of stealing PS-Imberakuri documents” (The New Times, July 9).

There is a need for the Parliament of Rwanda to review the Constitution on the eligibility of those who want to run for the Office of the President of the Republic.

I was trying to figure out if the institution of the presidency in Rwanda would be given to any person regardless of say, their marital status. I think there is a danger in having a Head of State who is single.

Take an example of Diane Rwigara. If for example she would have gone to the final stage and won the election (though she is not a competitor), this would mean a country would have gone under the leadership of a single lady. I don’t know if one is figuring the danger into this.

We need a Constitution that recognizes the President who is married. Otherwise a single President would turn the state into a mess.

Again, morally it doesn’t sound right that a head of state is a single man/lady. Yulian
