Grace Ineza Umuhoza, a third year university student at the University of Rwanda (UR), has been nominated for one of Africa’s famous global women leadership programmes.

 The Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development (MILEAD) Fellow Programme selects from around the continent’s most promising young women leaders, who possess the courage and commitment to lead and shape the future of Africa,.

 Of the over 2,500 application received from 45 African countries and the Diaspora, only 26 applicants were selected.

 The Fellows are between the ages of 19 and 25, and actively lead change on pertinent issues in many areas – from entrepreneurship, economic justice and women’s health, to political participation, environmental innovations and gender justice.

 Umuhoza is a winner of Africa Innovation Prize business idea challenge of 2016, thanks to her project "Baby An Angel” that’s designed to help to rural women and families by providing working opportunities to young girls.

 "I am so humbled to receive the nomination of MILEAD 2017 fellow programme. I believe this is the chance for me to acquire new skills and knowledge in order to address issues that are really faced by women in my country, and the African continent to make them better,” Umuhoza said.

Umuhoza studies Water and Environmental Engineering at the University of Rwanda. 

Moremi Initiative is a United Nations accredited organisation dedicated to promoting women’s leadership and social justice in Africa. It is based in Ghana and the United States. The Fellowship is designed to help equip young women leaders with additional skills that will enable them provide the bold and inspirational leadership needed to ensure Africa gets to and sustains its rightful place in the global community of nations.
