APR FC and Police FC will go head-to-head in the final of the 2024 Heroes Cup at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Thursday, February 1.

The two security teams qualified to the final after eliminating Musanze and Rayon Sports from the semifinals via penalty shootouts.

Prior to the epic final, Vincent Mashami has an uphill task to stop an APR side which remains unbeaten in domestical club football so far this season.

The two teams recently met in the league on January 21 with Bosco Ruboneka's second half strike earning APR the three maximum points. Police FC will be hoping to make amends after failing to shine in their last encounter.

Mashami needs to apply his tactical acumen if he is to get the needed results against a well drilled APR FC who played the previous game without a recognized number 9 as Victor Mbaoma is still sidelined through injury.

APR gaffer Thierry Froger may be tempted to throw Thaiba Mbonyumwami into the fray so that the likes of Alain Kwitonda, Sharaf Shaiboub and others can play their normal position.

Police FC, on the other side, will be hoping that striker Peter Agblevor will have his day and propel them to victory. He was man marked by Clement Niyigena in their last meeting and couldn't play his normal position.

Abedi Bigirimana was among the reasons Police FC lost when the two sides last met. If he decides to play productive football by releasing balls early, his team can get the needed results.

This is going to be the 18th meeting of the two teams since 2015. APR have had the upper hand from the previous 17 outings, having won 9 times against Police’s one victory while seven games ended in draws.

On paper, it looks even but, in reality, APR are well experienced and know how to win big games on big occasions.

The final will be preceded by a women’s final which will see AS Kigali WFC and Rayon Sports WFC resume rivalry at the same venue at 3pm.
