The questions we should ask about 'cagua'

Editor, RE: "EAC must remain firm on cagua” (The New Times, June 24).

The question we should be asking our leaders is, why can’t some of these items be sold directly to our local markets without having to be re-imported? How come citizens of other countries can afford to buy garments manufactured within our countries, while majority of the citizens in our nations cannot?

It is like rearing the chicken that lays the eggs that you sell but you cannot afford to eat the egg. Stephen Imbo
