MTN Rwanda has donated Rwf1.5 million to the Rwandan Muslim Community, which will enable 500 members to access health insurance, commonly known as ‘Mutuelle de Sante’.

The donation is part of the telecom firm’s drive to support the Muslim community in the country, according to Bart Hofker, the MTN CEO.

"We want to join the Muslim Community in and around Kigali and support them during this Holy month of Ramadan,” Hofker said in a statement yesterday.

"This is a demostration of our commitment to continue making a difference in the lives of customers and, our Muslim brothers and sisters as they come to the end of the Holy month of Ramadan,” he said.

Ntawiha Haridi, a representative of the Muslim community in Kigali, thanked MTN for the donation, saying it will enable 500 members of their community to access health care services. ‘Mutuelle de Sante’ is a community-based universal health insurance scheme designed to ensure that all Rwandans access health care.

Alain Numa, the head of promotion, sponsorship and events at MTN, said the firm will continue to support its diverse customer base as a way to "show of solidarity and appreciation of support it has received over the years.”
