Britam Insurance Company (Rwanda) Ltd on Monday, January 29 launched ‘Ramba na Britam,’ a unique and affordable medical insurance product specifically designed for organised groups.

The innovative policy offers comprehensive coverage including inpatient, outpatient, and funeral expenses, designed to meet the diverse needs of SMEs, Microfinance institutions, SACCOs, cooperatives, self-help groups, government and educational institutions, and religious groups.

The policy is renewable annually though it has an expiry age of 70 years. Britam, however, reserves the rights to renew cover or not before expiry.

"At Britam, we understand that healthcare is not just about treatment, it’s about assurance, security, and the well-being of our communities. With ‘Ramba na Britam,’ we are not just launching another product; however, we are redefining the landscape of healthcare insurance in Rwanda. Our goal transcends beyond business, it’s about contributing significantly to the life expectancy and overall health of the Rwandan populace,” Molly Rwigamba, Board Chair of Britam said.

She stressed that through ‘Ramba na Britam,’ the company is taking a bold step towards realising a healthier and more secure future for their customers.

Andrew Kulayige, the Chief Executive of Britam, emphasised the company’s commitment to understanding and addressing customer needs. "In our journey to innovate and serve our customers better, we at Britam have always placed their needs at the forefront.”

He noted that ‘Ramba na Britam’ is a testament to Britam unwavering commitment to customer-centricity.

The new product is crafted from a deep understanding of the unique challenges and needs of various organised groups in Rwanda.

"We recognise that each group has its distinct healthcare requirements, and our flexible ‘Ramba na Britam’ plan is designed to meet these diverse needs effectively. Our vision with this initiative is clear – to empower our customers with comprehensive, flexible, and affordable healthcare solutions, ensuring peace of mind in the face of life’s uncertainties.,” he stated.

Kulayige added that this is a new product that they didn’t know that would work out— they went through many processes but managed to secure a pass to go to the market.

He noted that this is a product designed specifically for customers that may not be served under the insurance it covers or are underserved to ensure that they are covered for any medication they require.

Kulayige added that Britam is offering an opportunity for everyone in any corner of Rwanda, urging clients to expect affordable health coverage. One can pay as less as Rwf 33,000 to get covered for a full year.

"This is the beginning; we have other products that we are looking forward to introducing on the market after understanding our customers’ needs. Our customers are at the center of what we do.”

Key benefits of ‘Ramba na Britam’

The inpatient cover addresses hospitalisation needs due to illness, injuries, and pregnancy, including maternity, congenital conditions, ambulance services, radiology, dental, optical, and Covid-19.

For the outpatient cover, it caters for outpatient treatments including consultations, investigations, dental, optical, and chronic conditions.

The last expense cover provides financial support for funeral expenses.

In order to process disseminating service at the hospital, a client is required to visit any approved Britam hospitals in the panel. In case of an accident and one is admitted in a hospital not in their panel, the customer is expected to notify Britam within 24 hours through these helplines + 25088316016 and +250722316016.

Members entitled to get the cover should be more than three people, the applicant and the spouse should be between 16 and 65 years at entry.

Children between 34 weeks at delivery and 16 years automatically qualify for inclusion. Those above 19 years up to 25 years can be included only if they are students in schools or college. However, evidence of one as a student must be provided.

The application process is available at any assigned Britam Intermediaries or distribution channels. While applying, a client will be required to fill in the application form, a copy of their ID and that of their spouse (if applicable) and birth certificates for the children dependents.
