APR Volleyball Clubs (men and women) dominated this year’s Genocide Memorial Tournament that concluded on Sunday evening at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

In the men’s category, the army side beat Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in a five-set thriller 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 23-25 and 15-11) and also claimed the women title after beating Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) by the same score line 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 24-25, 25-23 and 15-13).

The titles were the first in four years for APR in the annual tournament.

"This is an important win for us because we really wanted to get our hands on this trophy; it has been a long time. I am very happy for my players,” said APR men’s team head coach, Sammy Mulinge.

In the semi-final, APR women beat Espoir of Uganda and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) overcame defending champions Sport S, while in the men’s category; APR beat Sky from Uganda whereas REG defeated University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB).

Sport S and Sky finished third in women and men categories respectively. The men’s defending champions, University of Kibungo (UNIK) were eliminated in the group stages.

The winners, APR (men and women) took home Rwf500,000 on top of the trophy, while RRA and REG got Rwf300,000 for finishing second whereas third-placed Sport S and Sky received Rwf150,000.
