Amavubi beat Morocco 2-0 at Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali on Friday in the first of the two games scheduled during the Genocide Memorial Tournament.

APR midfielder Djihad Bizimana opened the scoring in the 30th minute from the spot after Morocco defenders fouled forward Justin Mico.

Rwanda Azam Premier League top scorer Danny Usengimana netted the second goal in the 65th minute following good combination between Mico and skipper Michel Rusheshangoga.

Amavubi coach Antoine Hey was taking charge of his first match following his appointment.

In the additional time of first half, Mico had a chance to score but his effort was saved by the Morocco goalie.

Both sides going through the formalities ahead of the match at Amahoro National Stadium.

By now Bizimana was dominating in the midfield.

Earlier, Thierry Manzi had hit the post following a nice cross from Emmanuel Imanishimwe.

Morocco had two chances of their own which were saved by Marcel Nzarora.

In the second half, Antoine Hey introduced Dominique Savio Nshuti for Emmanuel Imanishimwe, and Pepinierre striker Gilbert Mugisha, who was making his debut for the national team, for Mico.

Skipper Haruna Niyonzima, who started on the bench, replaced Ally Niyonzima; Usengimana replaced by Jacques Tuyisenge; Olivier Niyonzima came off in favour of Emery Bayisenge; while Jean Baptist Mugiraneza came on for Bizimana.

The two sides will face off again in the second match on Sunday.

The matches were organised by Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) in honour of the footballers, coaches, fans, administrators as well as other Rwandans who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.
