Editor,

RE: "Forensic Laboratory: What does this mean for Rwanda?” (The New Times, May 24). Let’s hope the lab will be put to good use, most especially in crime investigation.

Let’s also hope that the analytical results will produce genuine intelligence reports. I have read stories of forensic investigations in Africa where analytical results have become more of a joke than genuine scientific investigations.

These days some paternity DNA tests are a matter of how much money one has to pay the analytical scientist.

Integrity, autonomy, state of art equipment and highly experienced analytical scientists should form part of the Rwanda forensic laboratory system.
