The Fund for Genocide Survivors (FARG) is helping children to fight Gender Based Violence. They are doing this by catering for the scholarship needs of children who were born as a result of rape during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi’s.
The Fund for Genocide Survivors (FARG) is helping children to fight Gender Based Violence. They are doing this by catering for the scholarship needs of children who were born as a result of rape during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi’s.
According to a report compiled between 2005 and 2008 by the Rwanda National Police on Gender Based Violence, over 2000 cases of rape and almost 10,000 cases of defilement of children below the age of 18 were reported.
These figures show that children are greatly affected by acts of violence and therefore must be involved in finding solutions to stop these vices.
In line with this, Rwanda’s Parliament passed the Gender Violence Act. They further urged the Rwandan population including the children, to be aware of the benefits of the Act.
Children have been urged to report anyone who violets and abuses them to the police, parents, teachers and local leaders or any other old person they trust.
