APR FC had to dig deep to hold AS Kigali 1-1 yesterday at Stade de Kigali to remain in the crucial second place on the league table.

The two sides met just two days after Rayon Sports wrapped up the title but the battle for second place remains pretty much alive as the position guarantees a place in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup should Rayon win the Peace Cup too.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali had almost won the game courtesy of forward Hamidou Ndayisaba’s goal in the 30th minute, from a free kick, however attacking midfielder Fiston Nkezingabo scored a stunning solo goal four minutes to stoppage time to hand Jimmy Mulisa’s side a crucial point.

Following the draw, APR remain second with 55 points. However, third-placed Police FC, who defeated Sunrise 3-2 in Nyagatare, closed the gap to one point with 54 points while AS Kigali remain in fourth place with 49 points.

They each remain with three games.

In the other games played yesterday, Musanze  beat Amagaju 2-1 at Ubworoherane Stadium; Kirehe lost 2-1 at home to Bugesera; while Marines lost 2-1 to Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium.

Action continues Saturday when champions-elect Rayon Sports visit relegated side Pepiniere at Ruyenzi turf and Mukura host Gicumbi at Huye Stadium, while Espoir will host struggling SC Kiyovu at Kamarampaka Stadium.
