The national team of the mentally disabled is already in China’s business hub of Shanghai to participate in the World championships scheduled for October 2-11.

The team which left on September 23 and landed in China on September 25 is scheduled to be among the 7500 intellectually disabled participants scheduled to take part in the first  World Summer Games.

In an e-mail message to Times Sport, Anaclet Ruzindana, Special Olympics Rwanda national director and head of the delegation to China, said the team is currently engaged in the Host Town Program designed to get participants accustomed the environment.

The team which is participating for the first time in international competitions is made of players selected during the national championship which took place at the Kicukiro grounds in July.

Special Olympics games were designed to help the mentally retarded individuals to develop talents in different games.

Participants in the China event will compete in Basketball, Athletics, Bowling, Bocce, Aquatics, Badminton, Cricket, Cycling, and Dragon boating, among others.
