Africa Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has awarded Rwanda the rights to host the Zone 5 World Championship Qualifiers slated for June 15-18—the four-day event will be staged at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

The decision was reached at by both the International Volleyball Federation and the Africa Volleyball governing board, after Rwanda applied to host the event. The last time Rwanda hosted the event was in 2013 where they finished second behind Egypt.

"We are happy to host the event and we hope the tournament will be successful on and off the courts, but we are still waiting for the official letter from CAVB,” said the Rwanda Volleyball Federation acting Secretary General, Gertrude Kubwimana.

Meanwhile, FRVB will today hold fresh general elections to choose a new executive committee—the exercise will be held at Amahoro National Stadium.

According to the vice president, Julies Kansiime Kagarama, who has been acting as president after Gustave Nkurunziza’s resignation nearly two months ago, so far only former Mayor of Gisagara district Leandre Karekezi has expressed interest in the post of president.

Karekezi, a former APR and National University of Rwanda (NUR) player, founded Gisagara Volleyball Club as well as the construction of the country’s first internationally recognized volleyball gymnasium worth Rwf921 million that was completed in December last year.
