Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball club head coach Jean Bahufite has revealed that his will be out for revenge when they face reigning champions Patriots on Friday in what could determine this season’s league title.

The two title hopefuls have each lost only one game—table leaders Patriots lost to IPRC-Kigali in the first round while newly established REG stumbled against Patriots 71-57.

Bahufite, who won four consecutive league titles with Espoir has revealed that Friday’s game will be a great opportunity not only to hand the Kagugu-based Patriots a second defeat but also leapfrog them at the top of the table.

"We have to prepare for that game in the best way possible because it is the title decider and also we want to revenge the defeat in the first round, I believe we have 95% chances to win the game on Friday,” said Bahufite.

He sent out the warning after REG overwhelmed Rusizi 130-66 on Sunday, with center Kami Kabange dropping a game high 34 points in Rusizi.

On Friday, Patriots defeated IPRC-Kigali 84-67 to remain in pole position while third-placed Espoir beat 30-Plus 129-41 and former champions APR were stunned 71-62 by IPRC-South at Amahoro Indoor Stadium on Saturday evening.

Henry Mwinuka’s Patriots lead the ten-team league table standing with 23 points, two ahead of second-placed REG, level with third-placed Espoir. However, Patriots and Espoir have played 12 games, one more than REG.

IPRC-Kigali are fourth with 18 points and APR are fifth with 17 points while 30-plus and CSK occupy the bottom two positions with 13 points and 11 points respectively.
