After beating Sunrise 1-0 in Nyagatare on Saturday, APR head coach Jimmy Mulisa has urged his side to stay focused and maintain consistency ahead of the seven remaining matches in the 2016/17 Rwanda Azam Premier league.

Muhadjiri Hakizimana scored the lone goal in the 53rd minute courtesy of a free kick to help the Military side cut the eleven-points on top of the league table to eight.

"We still have seven matches to play and we must win all of them to close the gap on top, yes we won the game but we have to keep this winning streak for the rest of the season since mathematically we are still in title contention,” Mulisa said.

Jimmy Mulisa’s side are one point above Police FC and three ahead of AS Kigali, who are third and fourth respectively.

Table leaders Rayon did not play this weekend as they were competing in the CAF Confederation Cup and their tie with Gicumbi FC was postponed.

To win the title, APR will need to win all their seven remaining games and hope that Djuma Masudi’s team lose grip, something that looks increasingly unlikely as Rayon Sports need 13 points from eight matches to win the league for the second time since the 2012/13 season.

Elsewhere Espoir beat Kirehe 1-0 in Rusizi while Musanze played 1-all draw against AS Kigali at Stade Ubworoherane in Musanze. Police thrashed Pepinierre 4-1 and Amagaju lost at home 1-0 against Bugesera.

Police remain third with 46 points while AS Kigali are fourth with 44 points with Musanze in the fifth place with 37 points. Gicumbi and Pepiniere occupy the bottom two positions with 18 and 12 points respectively..
