Alternative energy sources the best way forward

The Dutch minister for International Development has just been in Rwanda, making a timely commitment towards, the country’s investment in alternative energy sources. Sources of energy in Rwanda include; hydro, thermal, methane and solar.

Minister Bert Koenders, was speaking after visiting the, Kivu Methane Gas Project in Rubavu District, noting that the country’s future development lay in having sufficient energy sources.

It is a fact that the industrial revolution, in Great Britain, was oiled and propelled by the discovery of energy, especially coal, moving from manual labour to machine labour, thus increasing efficiency in product output which meant bigger profits.

This revolution was to later spread to other parts of the world including Africa. This revolution affected Africa in a negative context of colonialism, thus she was the provider of raw materials, such as rubber, crude oil, gas, and others which made Europe’s industry flourish.

It is in this regard that Rwanda’s discovery of methane gas, is revolutionary to her development agenda. She has the necessary ingredients to oil her industry, in the process creating employment based on a self reliant economy.

At this rate not even the global turbulence in the prizes of oil will affect her ability to keep her diverse industries going. Methane discovery also means Rwanda can produce fertilisers, liquid fuel and gas for heating.
