Ndayisaba Fabrice Foundation (NFF), a local non-profit organisation composed of over 200 youth football players, will organise the second edition of secondary schools football competition in June as part of its activities for the 23rd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

The Kicukiro-IPRC based football academy was founded eight years ago by Fabrice Ndayisaba to bring together children, who lost parents during the Genocide, and keep them busy through football.

Speaking to Times Sport, Ndayisaba said that the competition will be held in Kicukiro. "The main goal is to use the competition as an opportunity to fight genocide ideology, and unite and reconcile young Rwandans through sports, particularly football.”

On Sunday, a NFF delegation of over 70 people, including children, their parents and 2017 Miss Rwanda, Elsa Iradukunda, honoured the Genocide victims through a walk to remember from Kinamba to the Kigali Memorial Centre where they laid wreaths, prayed and observed a minute of silence.

NFF Coordinator, Denis Butera, revealed that they had approached over 20 schools to interest them into taking part in the tournament, whose dates are yet to be confirmed.

"Last year, we had eight schools but this year, we want to have more, that is why we’re approaching different schools, especially those that didn’t participate last year,” he said.

The academy are integrates street children from in and around Kicukiro District by involving them in football to keep them off the street.
