Rayon Sports will take another giant stride toward winning the 2016/17 Azam Premier League title today if they beat Sunrise FC at Kigali stadium. The game starts at 3:30pm.

The current Peace Cup winners are bidding for their eighth league title and the first since 2013, and they finally look to be destined to hit their target following their recent outstanding performance.

This will be last game in hand of the three games that were not played in time as Djuma Masudi’s side was involved in the CAF confederation cup matches.

The blues claimed valuable three-points on Saturday after beating their bitter rivals AS Kigali 1-0 courtesy of a Thierry Manzi header, which stretched their lead to 49 points, eight ahead of reigning champions APR.

With that motivation, another win today against ninth-placed Nyagatare-based Sunrise FC would take the Blues 11 points clear and possibly beyond reach for a struggling APR, who have won just once in the last eight matches in all competitions.

"It is going to be a tough game against Sunrise because they want to finish among the top positions and now that they have one of the best coaches in Rwanda (Andre Casa Mbungo) we shall have to play cautiously,” said Masudi

In their other game in hand, Rayon defeated Bugesera FC 1-0.

However, Mbungo has also vowed to frustrate Rayon and has urged his players to win this game to give them a boost as they look to finish in top half.

"We need to win the game because we need points than them, but we know we are facing a strong side on top of the table. We must try to defend well and look for the goals early,” Mbungo said.

In the first-round game, Rayon Sports defeated Sunrise 1-0 in Nyagatare and by then Sunrise was being coached by Nigerian tactician Andrew Ibeh
