Egypt’s Ahly crowned champions as UNIK finish 11th at African Club Championship

Egypt’s Ahly claimed their 12th African Club Championship trophy following their victory over Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in the competition final held at Taraji Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Monday as Rwanda’s debutant University of Kibungo (UNIK) finished in the 11th place.

Egypt’s Ahly claimed their 12th African Club Championship trophy following their victory over Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in the competition final held at Taraji Hall in Tunis, Tunisia on Monday as Rwanda’s debutant University of Kibungo (UNIK) finished in the 11th place.

Ahly defeated Etoile du Sahel 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18) to claim this year’s edition.

This was Ahly’s 12th title and improved their record with 6 titles more than Sfax, the second most successful club.

University of Kibungo (Rwanda) beat Alnahda of Sudan 3-0 (25-18, 25-17 and 25-22) to finish in eleventh position at their debut. UNIK failed to reach their target after going into the competition seeking to finish in top ten places.

Organizers Esperance of Tunisia claimed the 5th position after beating Kenya Prisons 3-0 (25-19, 25-18 and 25-19), while Libya’s newcomers Assarya captured the 7th place in their first ever participation at the African Club Championship after they overcame Cameroon’s FAP 3-0 (25-20, 25-18 and 25-14).
