APR piled more pressure on archrivals and table leaders Police after winning their two games in hand on Saturday to reduce the gap at the top to just two points as the army side continue the chase for a first league title in eight years.

In the first game, APR beat Nyabihu-based Groupe Scolaire Rambura 64-19 with Viateur Rwamanywa finding the back of the opposition net 10 times.

From Nyabihu, the military side travelled to Rubavu where they played against College Inyemeramihigo defeating them 44-30. APR’s Jean Paul Muhawenayo scored the game high 15 goals.

Anaclet Bagirishya’s side moved to 25 points, two points behind unbeaten Police, who are seeking a fourth consecutive league title.

On Sunday, despite Police hammering Rambura 60-7, it wasn’t of any impact as they were stripped of the three points that they had got from University of Rwanda College of Education (UR-CE) which pulled out of the league a fortnight ago.

In other games, Ecole Secondaire Kigoma defeated Saint Aloys de Rwamagana 32-27, with Kigoma’s Samuel Mbesuntunguwe scoring 11 goals. Kigoma are third with 19 points while St. Aloys are fifth on 18 points.

Nyakabanda defeated Ecole Secondaire Urumuri 36-29 with the help of Celestin Hakizimana, who netted 10 goals. Nyakabanda are seventh with 14 points and Urumuri are eighth with nine points.
