Ugandan rapper Daniel Lubwama Kigozi, better known by his stage name Navio, will headline the first edition of Jameson Connects Rwanda, organisers have said.

The show will take place at CHIC rooftop in downtown Kigali on March 31. The event is being organised by Rock Events, in partnership with Tianis, the official representatives of Jameson, whose products such as wines and spirits, will be available at the venue.

Navio is one of Uganda’s top rappers, best known for his successful solo career with hits such as Ngalo, Bugumu, One & Only, and On and On, among others. He is also a member of the pan-African supergroup ONE8.

Bruce Twagira, the main organiser, said that bringing the 33-year-old rapper to the event is just the beginning, as they intend to bring more stars from around the region and beyond.

"This is our first edition of Jameson Connects Rwanda, we hope to have more editions in the future, along with lots of top musicians,” said Twagira. "Concertgoers should expect to have fun. We have homeboys DJ Miller and DJ Toxxyk playing Rwandan favourite jams and Navio who will be performing his songs. Different meats will also be available in plenty.”Asked about the sound restrictions in Kigali that led to interrupting Ykee Benda’s previous performances at the same venue, Twagira promised that a mistake cannot be repeated.

"We held talks with Kigali City Council officials and the Police, and they’re aware about the event. Basically everything is under control,” he said.

The Njogereza hitmaker last performed in Kigali at Mutzig Beer Fest 2016, alongside Nigerian sensational singer Wizkid.

The show starts at 6p.m till late, and tickets go for Rwf10, 000 and Rwf50, 000 for a table of three plus a bottle of Jameson liquor.

The organizers, who are remembered for putting together a very successful Sauti Sol concert in Kigali last year, want to make the ‘Jameson Connects Rwanda’ an annual event.
