City socialite, Sandra Teta is behind bars. Famed for organising social events, the 25-year-old is being detained at the Nyarugenge Prison, also known as 1930.

Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) spokesperson CIP Hillary Sengabo said Teta’s detention is linked to a case in which she issued a fake cheque to Kigali Serena Hotel.

"Teta was charged with issuing a fake cheque to Serena Hotel and was brought to prison on Thursday, last week. She was remanded for 30 days by the Nyarugenge first instance court as investigations continue,” Sengabo said.

However, this is not the first time Teta has been involved in fraud related cases; last year, the socialite was dragged to police by a local trading company on allegations of fraud.

In October, last year, STS Trade Limited, the importers Label 5 whisky brands, gave Teta wholesale merchandise worth Rwf5 million that could generate a lot of profit in sales at Teta’s ‘All Red Party.’

However, the socialite refused to return the products, and ignored attempts by the company to amicably resolve the issue.

According to one of the company’s representatives who preferred anonymity, Teta instead staked the drinks as collateral, in order to get a loan, which prompted STS Trade Ltd to involve police, after failing to resolve the matter amicably.

Teta is the founder of Luminant Entertainment Limited, an events management business, and the founder of Red Avenue that is responsible for the all red theme party.
