Minister Munyakazi tells fresh graduates to have self-confidence

University graduates need to have self-discipline and confidence to succeed in the competitive labour market, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Isaac Munyakazi, has said. He was speaking at the second graduation ceremony of the University of Kigali held at Petit Stade in Remera, yesterday.

University graduates need to have self-discipline and confidence to succeed in the competitive labour market, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Isaac Munyakazi, has said.

He was speaking at the second graduation ceremony of the University of Kigali held at Petit Stade in Remera, yesterday.

Over 650 students graduated with degrees in different disciplines.

Speaking at the ceremony, Munyakazi advised the fresh graduates to be exemplary and embrace national development programmes."Government is banking on education to empower each citizen to help reach our dreams, that’s why we put in a lot of effort,” the Minister said.

"For Rwanda to develop, it needs to produce professionals who have self-discipline and self confidence, that is why government encourages private investments in education,” he said.

Prof. Manasseh Nshuti, one of the University promoters, commended government for allowing private investors to establish private universities.

Nshuti affirmed the university’s commitment to providing quality education to students in order to produce competitive graduates.

He disclosed that the university is constructing a new spacious campus in Kiyovu that will boost their efforts in providing quality services.

A representative of the fresh graduates, Innocent Kimenyi, promised that they would uphold professionalism in whatever they do as well as help develop their respective communities.

Angelique Karekezi, an economics and business graduate, got first class upper and was awarded a fully paid trip to a destination of her choice.

She said it was a long academic journey completed with God’s help, and lecturers and parents support.

She also advised the fellow fresh graduates to see the newly acquired degrees as the first step of a long journey ahead.

University of Kigali has about 4500 students studying in campuses in Kigali, Musanze, Rubavu and Rusizi.

Among the different disciplines they offer include bachelors of law, business, management and economics, information technology and architecture.

They also have post- graduate programmes.

During the ceremony, best eight students from different faculties were given prizes such as air tickets to preferred destinations, smart phones, laptops, and cosmetics.
