The long-awaited reconstruction of Nyamata Stadium in Bugesera District as home for league side Bugesera FC is set to kick off at the end of this month, according to the club president, Jean Claude Gahigi.

"Our stadium is not up to the required standards, we’ve waited for a long time to get clearance to start refurbishing it, but after getting the green light, construction will start later this month,” Gahigi said.

As such, he said the club shall play all the remaining home matches this season at Kicukiro stadium.

"We are confident that when the stadium is completed, the team will improve its performance playing on a better pitch and the stadium would also boost match-day income in ticket sales through gate collections,” Gahigi explained.

When complete, the Nyamata Stadium is expected to have capacity of 10,000 people, according to Gahigi. The club’s current ground is substandard at best and unusable at worst, especially during the rainy season.

Construction of Nyamata Stadium is sponsored by Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Sports and Culture.

Bugesera FC are fifth in the league table with 31 points. Vincent Mashami’s team will face Marines FC in their next league match, away at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.
