It’s telling that UN did not react to Mitterrand’s genocide comments

You don’t need to surmise their attitude from before the Genocide, it is even clearer after the fact. Does anyone recall any condemnation from any western leader or from the UN to Francois Mitterrand’s psycho-pathetic offhand remark that, “In such a country’ - i.e. Rwanda – genocide wasn’t all that important?”

Editor,

RE: "Not just France, other western powers too knew about the impending Genocide” (The New Times, March 7).

Let’s wean ourselves off our ingrained naivety where the West is concerned. Their lack of any reaction to Mitterrand’s psycho-pathetic view, gives us frankest view of how much value our lives mean where they are concerned: Very little to nothing.
