APR FC attacking midfielder Muhadjiri Hakizimana has returned to training for the first time since undergoing surgery on his left ankle following a collision with a teammate during a training session in January.

The Rwanda international started a new phase of his recovery journey on Tuesday, with the midfielder managing to work out on the pitch for the first time since his surgery in January.

He did not have contact with the ball on his first day back in training.

The 22-year-old’s progress in his recovery will have come as good news to his club with the doctors having earlier said he could be sidelined for at least six months.

But the midfielder will be training separately from the rest of the team for some days.

"I will be training alone for some time until I gain some rhythm. I am confident I will return to normal training in a few days time. The doctor advised me to take it slow since I am still within the recovery period,” the playmaker, who trained at Kicukiro stadium, said on Tuesday.

Before damaging his ankle, Muhadjiri was a first choice starter in the APR midfield alongside Yannick Mukunzi or Imran Nshimiyimana.

APR are second on the league table standings with 39 points from 19 matches, four points behind archrivals Rayon Sports, who also have a game in hand.
