Meat lovers are in for a treat this Saturday as Kigali’s premier meat festival, the Nyama Choma extravaganza, returns.

In its fourth edition now, the event will take place at the rooftop of the CHIC Complex in Downtown Kigali. Previous editions have been held at the La Palisse Hotel in Nyandungu.

Uganda’s first rising star Wycliffe Tugume, aka Ykee Benda, will headline the event that also has local musicians lined up. Benda is better known for his runaway hit, Munakampala, which is currently one of the most popular songs in Rwanda.

Nyama Choma is Swahili for barbecued meat. At the event, restaurants that specialise in this treat showcase and sell the best of goat, beef, pork, fish and chicken to guests in a live setting. Accompaniments range from potatoes, chips, to roast plantain and kachumbari, a fresh tomato and onion salad that pairs well with meat.

Following complaints about the exorbitant prices for meat set at previous festivals, organisers have promised a better deal this time, with some meat to be priced as low as Rwf700.

The event, that kicks off at noon, will include a variety of fun events such as live back-to-back DJ mixes by five top local DJs drawn from popular Kigali nightclubs.

"The event venue has shifted from La Pallise to CHIC building rooftop reason being it’s time to make the city vibrant again by having such events. Chic Building management were happy to host the 4th edition and are very cooperative. They offered free parking and ample security to all attendees,” said Zachariah Mswati, one of the organisers.

Other artistes lined up for the do include Gabiro, Davy Ranks, and 2T alongside his MPD band. Royal FM’s MC Tino will host the show.

The barbecue will be done by Issa, a popular barbecue chef based in Kimihurura.

There will be three price entries available ranging from Rwf3,000 for single to Rwf5,000 for two and Rwf10,000 for five.

In anticipation of his first performance in the country, an excited Ykee Benda took to his Facebook page, on Tuesday, and posted an emotional note titled "the prodigal son returns!”; "Home sweet home....the land we should have shared...the love we should have shared....the things we could have done together...the family I always knew I would own.

"I met this pretty ‘lady’ Uganda on my way to birth and damn...she has been good to me…and we truly love each other...but deep down it was always you my baby Rwanda.

"Through this guy called music...we have gotten another chance to see each other....only this time with so much love from both ends...and I know I am making you proud.

Here I Come Kigali Rwanda.

Your First Love

Ykee Benda.”
