League leaders APR FC will be looking to get maximum points against struggling Gicumbi FC when both sides face off today at Kicukiro stadium.

Head coach Jimmy Mulisa’s side reclaimed the top spot on Saturday after a 3-2 win against Mukura to move to 38 points ahead of close contenders Rayon Sports (second with 37 points) and Police (fourth with 32 points) that settled for a 2-2 draw.

The military side will take on Godfroid Okoko’s Gicumbi, currently second from bottom, while Rayon Sports will be playing against Espoir, who are in 7th position, at Kigali Regional Stadium.

The two first round games were postponed due to the CAF competitions matches which both APR and Rayon were involved in two weeks ago.

"Our aim is to keep winning our matches because we want to stay on top of the table. It is hard to play against the teams that are fighting for their lives but we need to win the game to continue strongly on the race for the title,” Mulisa said

Okoko who was sacked by Mukura last month due to poor performance, has started plotting how he can save Gicumbi.

"I know I will meet a strong team which is aiming to win the league title, but we also want to win the game to remain in the topflight,” Okoko said

Meanwhile, Rayon Sports will also be looking for three points against Espoir after dropping two points against Police on Saturday.

"We need to turn things around, starting with Espoir. It is a tough game but we need to be ready and win because dropping other points can cost us dearly,” said head coach Djuma Masudi

However, the Peace Cup holders have played a game less compared to APR and stand a chance to reclaim the top spot if they win it.
