The Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) president, Gustave Nkurunziza was yesterday arrested by Rwanda National Police and detained at Nyamirambo Police station over corruption charges.

Nkurunziza is being investigated for conniving with his executive committee to use federation money to bribe voters when he was seeking another term of office during elections that were held two weeks ago.

Nkurunziza’s arrest follows the arrest of two federation officials recently. The two are: Executive Secretary Christian Hatumimana and Treasurer Jeannette Uwera.

According to Police Spokesperson,ACP Theos Badege, Nkurunziza was arrested along with Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) Executive Director Jean De Dieu Mukundiyukuri on similar charges.

"It is true we have arrested both of them in relation to corruption and embezzlement allegations but the investigations are still on going. Once they are done everyone involved will be brought to a court of law,” Badege said.

Nkurunziza was re-elected for a second four-year term 3 weeks ago beating former national team player Leandre Karekezi by 18-9 votes.

Julius Kagarama Kansiime returned unopposed as first vice president, while Jean Pierre Ribanje was elected as second vice president.
