Rayon Sports thrash Al Wau Salam in CAF Cup

Rayon Sports have one foot in the first qualification round of the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup after thrashing South Sudan side Al Wau Salam 4-0 in the first leg played on Saturday in Juba.

Rayon Sports have one foot in the first qualification round of the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup after thrashing South Sudan side Al Wau Salam 4-0 in the first leg played on Saturday in Juba.

After a goalless first half, forward Savio Dominique Nshuti gave Rayon the lead in the 55th minute, midfielder Pierrot Kwizera added a second in the 68thminute and Nova Bayama scored the third goal in the 80th minute while Malian striker Moussa Camara completed the rout in the 89th minute.

The second leg will be played this weekend in Kigali, when Djuma Masudi’s side will be overwhelming favourites to complete the job and a place into the next round.

Winners of both the preliminary round and round of 16 will after drawing of lots, be placed into four groups of four teams each. After a round-robin of matches (home and away), the top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, APR shared spoils with Zanaco of Zambia in their CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg match also played on Saturday at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

The Rwandan league defending champions had chances to get at least an away goal had not been for the wastefulness of Issa Bigirimana, Patrick Sibomana and Djihadi Bizimana.

The second leg will be played over the weekend where APR will need to score atleast goal to reach the next round.

The winner between APR and Zanaco will face the winner of the game between Ngaya de Mbe of Cameroon and Young Africans of Tanzania.

The second qualifying rounds will then be played on the weekends of March 11-13 and 17-19. The losers at the first round will drop to the CAF Confederation Cup. Both APR and Rayon Sports are expected back in the country on Sunday.
