Revising in groups has many advantages

Dear counsellor,

Joyce Kirabo

Usually I prefer individual revision, and that’s what enables me to perform well. However, my class teacher prioritises group revision which I have realised takes a lot of time, and steals my focus. What can I do about this?Yours Penina

It’s always fine to believe in ourselves but we mustn’t be too easily convinced that "we absolutely know it all” such people live in a very small world and never get anywhere because they believe they’re already there. Teachers are professionals trained with a wide range of practical teaching methods that can spur your class performance and outshine your entire career life. This is why your teachers emphasise group work learning. There is nothing misleading as a self-centred student who holds up to himself as a self –made success and measures his own results. Those classmates are foundational-level people in your life for you to break this monotony and learn faster

Even a mother can have something to learn from her baby. Your classmates are endowed with a huge portfolio of social and academic opportunities that will help you discover new talents and strengths to open out new horizons for you and thrive in life. It’s fun to learn from friends to even enhances self approval. Isolated studying is like a two-winged bird without legs for it can only fly yet at one point, standing will be required.

Collaborating with others will help identify your own strengths and weaknesses for example leadership abilities, idea development and self awareness. Classmates have the potential to influence you positively, building your confidence and can make your future really shine. A single conversation with a right person can turn out more valuable than years of studies.

You should embrace the teachers approach and support your friends through group discussions to help them come up. The road to success is always under construction through team work, discussions and companionship. Only dead people don’t interact with others. School discussions set healthy platforms for double benefits for the present and future connections. Draw closer to your classmates regardless of whether they’re weak in some areas and focus your learning in groups. This will increase your probability of success while open doors for tremendous benefits in future without which, a miserable future is guaranteed.

A wise saying that " Two people together can accomplish more than twice as much as one can and the results can be much better”. Group work will help you to develop a host of skills that are increasingly important in the professional world. Don’t read alone but rather embrace the idea of group work. You will be a better learner as well as a well rounded future adult
