After heavy downpour devastated different parts of the country last week, killing three and destroying hundreds of houses in Kigali, Rwanda Meteorology Agency has released a weather forecast (January 21 to 31) according to which there will be light rain in different parts of the country.

During the aforementioned period, there will be average rain with lightning in Kigali, and light rain in Eastern Province, especially in the districts of Ngoma, Kirehe, Bugesera and Kayonza.

In Southern and Western provinces, there will be light rain with thunder. Northern Province will also receive light rain with thunder, especially in the districts of Musanze and Burera.

According to the agency, the rain will be normal.

Anthony Twahirwa, the Division Manager of Weather Services and Application Division at Rwanda Meteorology Agency, said the rain is no surprise because, for the last 46 years, it has been raining in this period of the year. It is due to convective heat transfer from Indian Ocean.

He said the agency will release a report on projected rain for Agriculture season B (March-May) in mid-February.

Twahirwa called on the members of the public to keep abreast with information on weather forecast for proper planning.
