SC Kiyovu head coach Aloys Kanamugire has challenged his new signing Isaac Muganza to score more goals that will earn him a long contract. Kanamugire made the remark after the striker left Police FC for a six-month deal with SC Kiyovu.

Striker Issac Muganza, in action during his days at Rayon Sports, was offloaded by Police last month over indiscipline. File.

Muganza was offloaded by Police last month over indiscipline charges along with central defenders Hertier Turatsinze, and Gabriel Mugabo who is currently training with league leaders Rayon Sports.

"We needed someone, who can score goals that is why we have signed Muganza until the end of the season, and if he impresses, we will decide whether to give him a longer deal or not, he has to earn his contract,” said Kanamugire.

Kanamugire, who made the remarks ahead of Sunday’s league match against Marines FC at Kigali Regional Stadium, added, "We are not going to sign other players but if we get an extraordinary striker we can bring him in, but our aim is to stick with the young Rwandan players.”

"I have faith that Muganza will make a difference because we need to improve in every game and I believe we will become a better team as the season progresses,” he explained.

In a separate interview, Muganza said, "I have waited for a chance to sign for a big team, and I’m happy that Kiyovu has given me the opportunity to get back to work at a high level.”

Muganza, a twin brother of Police FC striker Isaie Songa, played for Isonga FC, APR and Rayon Sports before joining Police last season.

Meanwhile, defending champions APR FC host perennial arch-rivals Rayon Sports on match day 14 of the 2016/17 national football league season on Saturday afternoon at Amahoro National Stadium at 3:30pm.

Both sides are separated by just three points in first and second positions respectively – hosts APR are second with 33 points, after nine wins, three draws and one loss while unbeaten Rayon Sports are top of the table with 33 points.
