Cecafa seeks new sponsors

The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) is seeking for a new sponsor for the Senior Challenge Cup tournament following the expiry of a three-year sponsorship deal from Ethiopia’s millionaire Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amu. The Ethiopian tycoon has been injecting a lump sum $500,000 for the past three years but according to Cecafa’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, the deal expired last year. Ahead of this year’s edition which is to be staged in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from December 8-22, the regional soccer body is set to hold negotiation talks with Al Amu for a new deal.Zambia is the current holder after ousting Sudan in last year’s final.Apart from Sheikh Al Amu, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has donated trophies for the upcoming Cecafa U-17 tournament in Burundi while President Paul Kagame is the official sponsor of the Cecafa Club championship.
