The director of Iteka African Cultural Festival, Yannick Niyonzima told The New Times that the event aims to showcase talent and popularize African culture as well as showcase the role of culture in rebuilding and restoring unity.

"The first edition was a success and it pushed us to re-organize this festival for the second time, and we have decided to have it annually. In general, it is characterized by activities that include dance, art, fashion, drama and other activities that help the participants warm up. We hope that our audience will enjoy this edition which has a lot more additions than the previous one,” he said.

Niyonzima further noted that the event attracts people from different backgrounds including members of the diasporas so that they can elaborate together on the meaning of peace and what it requires to create peaceful societies in Africa and anywhere in this world.

It will be held at various venues including the Institut français du Rwanda Kimihurura, Campus Remera (KIE) and Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village known as Camp Kigali.

At the Institut Français, Niyonzima said that there will be a program titled 'School Intercultural Talents', where schools will compete in cultural and artistic competitions and also participate in workshops to discuss the rights of the child and prevention of drug use among young people.

The second edition of the festival comes in style with a long list of talented performers and musicians including Josh Ishimwe, Club Intwari, Michael Makembe, Himbaza Club and Intayoberana ballet, Christus Regnat choir, Abeza b'Akaranga, Umuti Arts and many others that will be announced soon.
