Rwanda U-20 men’s handball team will today begin hunting for their first International Handball Federation (IHF) Africa Zone 5B title when they take on South Sudan in the first game today.

The biennial regional tournament, which started on Saturday at Uganda Christian University in Mukono district, Uganda, has attracted the best young talents from six East African countries namely; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and South Sudan.

Rwanda, who have been regular participants since 2009, are drawn in Group B along hosts Uganda and South Sudan while Kenya, Burundi and Tanzania are in Group A. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.

"We reached in Uganda safely and the weather is pretty fine, the players are all fit and ready for our first game, which we want to win before we face the hosts (Uganda) on Monday,” said Rwanda’s assistant coach Anaclet Bagirishya.

The tournament winners will qualify for the 2017 African Championships. In 2014, Rwanda competed in the men and women categories, finishing third in both, behind Uganda and Kenya.
