Singer Fille Mutoni is scheduled to headline the inaugural ‘Smart Awards’ show at Kigali Serena hotel on Sunday.

The Double Trouble singer is expected to arrive in the country on Saturday ahead of the Sunday event.

Mutoni, a Rwandan singer and songwriter based in Uganda, will be joined on stage by Agatako hitmaker and former member of R&B duo Two 4 Real, DJ Pius, among other local artistes.

Some of her popular songs include Naragutanze, No Money, I Need You, Mpola Mpola, among others.

According to organisers East Africa Youth Development Agency (EAYDA), the event is a platform to encourage responsible use of ICT in Africa, through rewarding outstanding individuals, companies, public institutions and non-governmental organizations that use the social media and other innovations in a way that contributes to the socio-economic transformation of the African continent.

"A big number people use social media just to enjoy the world of digital life. However, many are not yet sure of the social media impact on their businesses and services, while others are using these platforms for business,” said Emmanuel Mugisha Mugisha from AYDA.

"So they need to change their mindset by learning from those who are already enjoying the ICT based interests because the more your followers list grows, the more recognised your business gets recognised,” he added.

There are three selected social media channels; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with the awards classified into 10 categories. The nominees are musicians, comedians, actors, fashion designers, service providers, customer care institutions, public organisations and financial institutions and media houses. The winner in each category will be announced based on the results from online public voting. The Smart Awards will be an annual event to recognise the most effective use of social media.
