Are you one of the motorists that dread the sight of parking attendants across the city and its suburbs? Worry no more. You can now pay all parking fees and arrears (if any) right on your mobile phone using Tigo Rwanda’s Tigo Cash.

The development follows a partnership deal signed between parking fees collectors, the Kigali Veterans Cooperative Society (KVCS), and Rwanda’s second-biggest telecom, Tigo. The solution is the first mobile payment system for parking services in Rwanda, according to KVSC and Tigo officials.

KVCS managing director Maj (Rtd) Frank Ntabana said, "The initiative is in line with the country’s vision of being a cashless society. We believe that this platform is convenient for motorists and will help ease access to our services. KVSC is confident that this partnership will give our clients better services.”

Ntabana said in the first phase of the project, car owners will be able to clear all outstanding parking bills and fines using Tigo Cash.

Philip Amoateng, the Tigo Rwanda chief executive officer, said the partnership with KVCS is part of the firm’s efforts to give customers more convenience using Tigo Cash in their day-to-day lives.

"Cashless parking is just one of the many innovations that Tigo Cash has brought onto the market, including bulk payments for businesses and bank integration, a platform that links your Tigo Cash and bank account.”

How it works

To use this service, dial *799# and follow the instructions.

From January, 2017, car owners will be able to pay their parking fees by mobile without having to wait for a KVCS employee to issue them parking tickets, according to the two firms.
