Volleyball: APR captain Mutuyimana signs for REG

Rwanda international Aimable Mutuyimana has joined Rwanda Energy Group (REG) volleyball club on a one-year contract from APR after guiding the army side to the league title last season. The men’s league will start on December 17.

On top of playing for the newly formed league side, Mutuyimana will also work in the company’s IT department on probation of six months before he’s given a permanent contract.

"Everything is done, I will play for REG next season and I am happy to get job because apart from playing volleyball, we always need to get jobs and I am glad that I will be doing what I have studied,” said Mutuyimana.

The 25-year-old outside attacker, who is known for his playing ability and leadership skills on court, will certainly be an integral part of the new club in the upcoming campaign.

Last season, former Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) attacker joined APR for a second spell, having previously played for the side from 2012 to 2014, leading the club to two league titles in those years.

He also captained the U21 national team to finish third at the Africa U21 Championship in 2013 in Tunisia to qualify for U21 World Championship staged the same year in Turkey where Rwanda finished bottom of the 20-team table.
