Just over a month after getting approved by Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) to compete in the national league that gets underway today, Bank of Kigali (BK) Basketball Club have dramatically pulled out.

BK made the shock announcement on Friday, 48 hours before their would-be season opener against defending champions Patriots—they cited a lack of readiness to compete in the 2016/17, according to FERWABA technical director, Didier Shema Maboko.

"We were just informed by the club officials on Friday evening on a phone call that they will not compete in the league, however; we are yet to receive an official statement from them but it will not affect the league schedule,” Maboko told Sunday Sport.

BK together with Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball club were approved by FERWABA General Assembly.

Meanwhile, four games are scheduled to take place today with IPRC-Kigali taking on Rusizi Basketball Club in the season opener at Amahoro Indoor Stadium at 9am before 30-Plus faced playoffs defending champions IPRC-South, at 11 am, at the same venue. APR will play United Generation Basketball (UGB) at 1pm while former champions Espoir will be up against Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) at 3pm.
