POLICE FC will take on Kirehe FC in the national football league today at Kicukiro Stadium seeking for a win to go top of the table at least for a day before Rayon Sports face Amagaju on Sunday.

Innocent Seninga’s side are in second place with 13 points, three points behind table leaders Rayon Sports, but they can go top with a victory against Hamis ‘Kishi’ Songonya’s team, which is currently in 7th place with 10 points albeit with a game in hand against APR FC.

After six rounds of matches, this season has proved to be the most competitive compared to past years as teams like Rayon Sports, and Police, Etincelles (third) and Sunrise, who are in fourth position, have all showed potential to wrestle the title from the military side.

"We need to win the game against Kirehe to go top of the table. Kirehe are enjoying their first season in the first division and have proved to be a tricky team to play against, but we are confident that we can win and maintain our momentum,” Seninga told Saturday Sport.

Seninga will be looking at his main striker Danny Usengimana to keep in his scoring boots following his hat trick in the 3-1 victory against Musanze in the last outing last Sunday.

Victory for Police would take them level on points with Rayon Sports but will put them in top spot thanks to a superior goal difference, while a win for Kirehe will move them to 13 points, three behind the leaders.

A confident Kishi said, "We are going into the game with a lot of motivation; our target is to win, we need to get three points because winning against the big teams brings more confidence into the players and I am sure we can do that.”

"Police have proved they are a strong team but we are good enough to beat anyone in this division, so we will give our best to win the game,” noted the former SC Kiyovu and AS Kigali coach.

Elsewhere on Saturday, sixth-placed Espoir FC will host Musanze, who are tenth, in Rusizi while Gicumbi in 13th position entertain bottom side Marines.

The league action will continue on Sunday as fourth-placed Sunrise plays against Vincent Mashami’s Bugesera FC (9th) at Nyagatare ground while Alloys Kanamugire’s SC Kiyovu, in 12th place with five points will be at home to struggling Pepiniere at Mumena stadium.

League leaders Rayon Sports will travel to Nyamasheke hoping to secure maximum points against home side Amagaju FC, who are in 14th position with four points, three above the relegation zone..
