After leading the club to the 2016/17 pre-season triumph last weekend, Patriots Basketball Club new signing, Sunny Niyomugabo has set his eyes on winning more titles with the club.

The 25-year-old shooting guard rejoined the reigning league champions before the start of the pre-season tournament penning a one-year deal after a very successful season with the Huye-based side winning the 2015/16 pre-season title and the playoffs title.

However, the versatile 1.95m towering figure with leaping ability along with speed and strength to frustrate Guards out on the perimeter is hungry for more glory with the Kagugu-based power house after revealing that he aims to lead his new side to more trophies.

"The only reason I have rejoined Patriots is to win titles, it is a big club, with very good players and always fighting to win each competition. And as a player that is my priority target I want to help the team and I think the pre-season gave us great motivation ahead of the new season,” said Niyomugabo

On Friday, last week, Patriots overcame newly created Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Basket Ball Club in a narrow 76-75 victory to emerge as the 2016/17 pre-season tournament winners, dethroning IPRC- South who won last year’s competition.

"We anticipate a very tough season following the coming of new and strong teams like REG, BK while others strengthen their squads but we (Patriots) have the potential to beat any team and win any competition, I hope we win everything this season,” he added

Last season, Niyomugabo finished as the 10th league top scorer with 227 points that helped his side to a third place.

In a bid to defend their title, Patriots have also signed shooting guard Didier Ishimwe from IPRC-South, Center player Junior Ambol from DR Congo and point guard Cedar Sagamba from Ndejje University of Uganda.

The 2016/17 season will kick off this Sunday at Amahoro indoor stadium with blue and white side taking on newly created Bank of Kigali (BK) Basketball Club at 3pm that will be playing its first game since it was officially registered.
