Renowned Rwandan socialite and former beauty queen Kate Bashabe on Saturday, January 6, donated school materials to at least 660 needy pupils from Rweru Sector, Bugesera District in Eastern Province.

The charity is part of the socialite’s annual philanthropy initiative that she has been carrying out over the past years through her charity organization, Kabash Cares.

The activity was attended by some Rwandan celebrities including musicians Christopher, Bruce Melodie and his management, as well as Bugesera District Mayor Richard Mutabazi.

60 of the children had dropped out of school but Bashabe pledged to take them back to school and pay their school fees for a period of one year.

In an interview with The New Times, Bashabe said she was thrilled to have achieved her goal of helping needy citizens of Bugesera, especially students who had dropped out of school, as education is a necessity for all.

"It is always very important to give back to the community and help each other in any way possible. I&039;ve been doing this for many years and it's not just about donating, it's about following up and being involved in the daily lives of those we support," said Bashabe.

According to Bugesera District Mayor Richard Mutabazi, Bashabe has played a key role in tackling one of the district&039;s biggest problems - young children dropping out of school.

"Giving back to the community always supports the country's development journey and we appreciate Bashabe's will to uplift young people by bringing them back to school. We always welcome such initiatives that make a difference in our communities," said the Mayor.

Each of the beneficiaries was given school materials including a school bag, pens, mathematical set, notebooks and many more.

Kate Bashabe is famous for her clothing store 'Kabash Fashion' and other ventures including Kabash Care, a non-profit organisation she founded for charity works. She rose to fame in 2010 after winning a beauty pageant organised by MTN Rwanda.
