Children in Rwanda are set to improve their reading and public speaking skills after book publisher Bakame Editions released a new set of books last Friday in Kigali.

The books, according to the publisher, will enable children between the ages of three and 10 years to know how to read and speak confidently when with their peers and elders.

Agnes Gyr-Ukunda, the head of Bakame Editions, said the books are written in Kinyarwanda, and are titled, Akajangwe Buroho, Uruhimbi rwa Nyanka and Umwana mu Muryango Nyarwanda, among others.

"Books help a child not to get bored and help them learn about different aspects of life, which is what most parents and teachers want to achieve. We need to do more to have more children read books because after reading them, they are happy and share the stories with one another,” she noted.

The event was also attended by trainers, who showed parents how to read to their children while at home.
