Bakame hails Rayon after win against Sunrise

Rayon Sports skipper Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye has hailed his team-mates for what he described as an "outstanding performance” against Sunrise FC in a national football league match played on Saturday at at Nyagatare ground in the Eastern Province.

Burundian forward Pierrot Kwizera scored his fifth league goal of the season in the 73rd minute to send Rayon Sports three points clear at the top of the table standing after five rounds of matches.

"We can enjoy this win because we needed to stay top of the table, everyone was in good shape against Sunrise and I believe this performance will give us more strength and confidence ahead of next fixtures, it was an outstanding performance,” Ndayishimiye said after Saturday’s game.

He noted that, "We have showed that Rayon Sports is a strong team but we can still improve as the season goes on and hopefully this game will raise the morale of the team because it was difficult,” he added.

Rayon Sports will play their next game against Bugesera. Rayon Sports lead the table with 13 points, while Sunrise and Police FC are in second place with 10 points each.

Djuma Masudi’s team had opportunities to win the game by a more respectable margin but Kwizera and Diarra Camara, who both had scoring chances failed to beat Sunrise goalie Jean Paul Itangishaka.

Alex Orotoma had the best scoring opportunity for Andrew Ibeh’s Sunrise at the start of the first half when he went one-on-one against Ndayishimiye but failed to hit the back of the net.

Elsewhere at Nyamata ground, Bugesera beat Marines 1-0 courtesy of Farouk Ruhinda’s headed goal in the 40th minute, which sent Vincent Mashami’s side to sixth place with 8 points after five rounds of matches.

Innocent Seninga’s Police FC were held to a goalless draw against Mukura Sports at Kicukiro Stadium.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the match between SC Kiyovu and Musanze FC at Mumena stadium was called off due to waterlogged pitch following a heavy downpour.

By the time the match referee Ahishakiye Balthzar called off the game in the 78th minute, the home side SC Kiyovu were leading 2-1. According to the league competition rules, Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) must announce another date for the match within 48 hours.
