Twenty Police officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), yesterday, completed a three-week tailor-made training on forensic investigations.

The training held at the National Police College (NPC), was conducted jointly by Rwanda National Police (RNP), Maastricht University and EP-Nuffic, a Dutch-based organisation for internationalisation in education.

While closing the course, the commandant of NPC, Commissioner of Police (CP) Felix Namuhoranye commended the officers for the enthusiasm they exhibited throughout the "intensive course” adding that the training met its expectations.

He went on to challenge the trainees to put the acquired skills to effective use.

"We expect you to translate what you have learnt into practice. Remember, whatever you do after this course should serve the purpose of the course,” CP Namuhoranye said.

He, however, noted that after this course there will be several refresher courses for the officers in order to keep abreast with the latest standards of forensic investigations.

The acting Commissioner for CID, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Morris Murigo expressed his conviction that the skills acquired by the officers will not only be beneficial to them as individuals but to Rwandans at large.

He challenged participants to share the skills acquired with their colleagues in the investigations sector and thanked the partners, trainers and facilitators who saw the training through.

The project manager, Heinz Greijn commended the trainees for their outstanding performance throughout the course. During the three weeks, officers acquired extensive skills in forensic science in investigations, crime scene management and memory eyewitness testimonies.
