LETTERS: Americans spoke, period!

This is spot on! We can talk until the cows come home but only Americans decide on who should lead them and we have to respect that. Now, after listening to President-elect Trump acceptance’s speech, I believe he has the potential to go down in history as the next Reagan.

Editor, RE: "Respect the choice of the American people” (The New Times, November 12).

This is spot on! We can talk until the cows come home but only Americans decide on who should lead them and we have to respect that. Now, after listening to President-elect Trump acceptance’s speech, I believe he has the potential to go down in history as the next Reagan.

He was, in a similar way, an outsider to the establishment although Reagan was Governor of California prior to becoming President. But the man was originally a Hollywood product. That’s why America is great and, quite frankly, enviable to the rest of the world.

Trump was publicly rejected by all former Republican Presidents (well, that’s one family). Where else the son of an African father can become President of one of the most powerful countries in the world for two terms? Not in Europe, not in China, not in Japan and definitely not in India.

I will leave Africa alone for now as Obama would probably have been ineligible to be President of Kenya if he even thought daring about it.

Finally, let’s admit the US CIC needs to have some swag: Reagan, Bill Clinton, Bush Jr., Obama had it and definitely Trump as an entertainment mogul also has it. Hillary doesn’t although she is super smart. Al Gore also didn’t have it.

Both Hillary and Gore won the popular vote by a slight margin but lost the electoral vote. There is also an unwritten rule in American politics that every 8 years there is a transition from Democrats to Republicans and vice-versa.
