Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) on Friday appointed an administrator for Kigali Bus Service (KBS), a leading transport operator in the City of Kigali.

In a statement released yesterday, the regulator appointed Eng. Deo Muvunyi as administrator for KBC for a period of six months.

"The decision comes after the detailed performance audit by the regulator revealed that the KBS Ltd has not only failed to comply with its license and contractual obligations, but also has serious managerial problems that have detrimental effects on stakeholders and public interest," reads part of the statement.

According to the statement, the decision, which took effect Friday, was in the interest of public transport within the city and all stakeholders.

"The appointment of the administrator follows previous efforts to assist KBS to fix its managerial and operational problems which proved unsuccessful," the statement reads.

KBS is one of the three operators that in 2014 won a five-year contract to operate all the routes in the City of Kigali, in an effort to streamline transport within the capital.

The other operators are Royal Express and Rwanda Federation of Transport Cooperatives (RFTC).
