The body of city tycoon Bertin Makuza, who succumbed to a liver disease last week, will be laid to rest today, the family has said.

Makuza died last Wednesday at King Faisal Hospital, aged 73. He is survived by a wife and six children.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted in the morning at his Kicukiro home which will be followed by a requiem mass at Regina Pacis Church in Remera, after the body will be taken back to his home where he will be buried, according to Claude Makuza, one of the deceased’s children. Makuza woke up in the morning as usual and went to work but later started to feel unwell and was taken to King Faisal Hospital, Kigali, according to the family.

He had suffered from a liver disease for quite sometime, a family member said citing a postmortem report.

Makuza is the owner of Rwanda Foam Ltd, manufacturers of mattresses and other bedding materials.

He is also the owner of Makuza Peace Plaza, a new landmark building in downtown Kigali, built at a tune of $42 million (about Rwf30 billion).
