Traditional music icon Intore Masamba is in Beijing, China where he was invited to perform at the 45th anniversary of the Rwanda–China diplomatic relations.

The event, which took place on November 4, aimed at further strengthening the relations between the two countries, according to officials.

"The event is aimed at celebrating 45th anniversary of Rwanda’s relations with China. China will be showcasing their culture through the China ballet and I will showcase Rwanda’s culture through my performances,” the 47-year-old musician told The New Times before the event.

The singer and songwriter is best known for tracks such as ‘Ari He’, ‘Rwanda Itajengwa’, ‘Nyeganyega’, ‘Wirira’, ‘Nzajya Inama na Nde?’, among many more, and has 10 albums to his name. He is also the founder of Gakondo, a traditional music group.

He is expected to return on Monday.

Masamba is expected to launch a countrywide awareness campaign about cultural heritage and traditional music, during which he plans to mentor young people interested in music before the year ends.
